Anonymous Blog 17 June, 2005

I have decided to export my blog to an alternative provider so I can blog in the shroud of anonymity. Does anyone have any hints or tips to make the transfer go smoothly? And has anyone used Greymatter or WordPress?

Edited to add: Or free blog hosts like Livejournal, Blogger or 20six )?

WordPress is fine – easy to use and sensible.

Been messin’ with the man too much then? πŸ™‚

Eh? I’ll blame being brain-dead from work this week, but you lost me there πŸ˜›

The truth is, there was something I really wanted to blog about but I figured it might be a bad idea because I might get into trouble with the thought police somewhere else in the world. And that’s all I should say before I anonymise myself…

hi nat use live journal, then u can have a private mode, a “friends only” mode (but for the friends only they have to be livejournal users and added to your friends list). I like live journal.

If you’re fond of your categories (and who wouldn’t be fond of categories which include those such as Peabrain and Plant Death?) Livejournal won’t support that sort of complexity. I don’t think Blogger will either. Not sure about Greymatter and have never heard of 20six.

I use Movable Type and like it, but I’ve heard good things about WordPress – it will probably have a bit of a learning curve and require a little technical tinkering though.

Bev, you’re biased because you’re on Livejournal πŸ˜‰

Mich, thanks for that – very helpful πŸ™‚ I’ve just had a look at Movable Type and it does look interesting, but I’m not really prepared to pay for software – not at this stage of blogging, anyway.

I think the only thing stopping me going for WordPress is the fact that I don’t currently have webspace (hence asking about free blog hosts). I think I’m going to investigate Blogger and WordPress a little further first (to be honest so many of my entries are still in the ‘General’ category I might be persuaded to relinquish my peabrain and plant death options :O)

Movable Type is free! You only have to pay if you want fairly advanced functionality eg. if you want to run more than 3 blogs on the same account with multiple users.

And surely you’d need your own webspace for WordPress as well?

Eh, I clearly didn’t look closely enough at Movable Type! Will go have another nosey πŸ™‚

And yes, I’d need webspace for WordPress (I think I mentioned that in my previous comment?) – I’m going to investigate my options in the summer πŸ™‚
